Events & Conferences is a division of Auxiliary Services responsible for the coordination of University-wide events, room scheduling of University events, management of the summer conference operations, management of a campus arts venue, and the coordination of non-University conferences and events throughout the year. Our mission is to support the academic enterprise of a vibrant research institution by providing comprehensive service and event planning resources at an exceptional value to campus departments and external clients.
We are seeking applicants for a Marketing and Events Manager. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Client Services, this position will support the marketing and registration activities of the department as well as serve as a primary contact for conferences and events.
Responsibilities include:
- Developing and implementing marketing strategies to promote Boston University's event venues, targeting a wide range of events such as day-only, multi-day, overnight conferences, social events, and weddings.
- Designing custom registration sites and housing reservation sites.
- Coordinating program needs for summer overnight accommodations and year-round events and conferences, including creating proposals and contracts, arranging and execution of services, and financial reconciliation.
- Responding to inquiries from prospective clients, providing detailed information about venue options, pricing, and services.
- Client services functions including creation and administration of client surveys, gift campaigns for clients and service providers.
- Manage up to 2 student employees, including hiring, training, scheduling, while providing day-to-day supervision, guidance, and support.
Required Skills Required Skills
- Bachelors Degree and three to five years of relevant experience, with a focus on customer service, events/conferences, or hospitality, and demonstrated expertise in marketing within these fields.
- Passion for customer service and the ability to remain calm and positive under pressure while effectively and diplomatically communicating with a variety of constituencies.
- Self-starter with the ability to be proactive and follow through on projects independently.
- Proficient with Microsoft Office including Excel and experience in creating/editing websites.
- Ability and willingness to work evenings and weekends for events or client meetings.
- Valid Drivers License, knowledge of Boston University and supervisory experience is preferred.
