The Assistant Director of Student Leadership and Learning serves as a student-centered and identity-conscious member of the Student Engagement and Belonging team strategically developing, tracking, supporting, and executing co-curricular programming initiatives as part of the vibrant Clark Experience.  This highly collaborative position works with the Division of Student Success, Dean of the College, faculty, Athletics and Recreation, and Advancement and Alumni to cultivate and organize signature experiences for students that enhance student learning, meaning making, and career readiness, ensuring delivery of student success outcomes.  

Reporting to the Director of Student Engagement & Equity, the Assistant Director manages student events and pathway programs of the Clark Engage (Anthology) platform, meeting with students and campus partners to develop learning outcomes, books and facilities events, and creates an organized co-curricular experience for students. The Assistant Director regularly assesses participation and student-learning, runs reports, supports student meaning-making, and ensures comprehensive overview and engagement records are part of students' e-Portfolio. The Student Engagement & Belonging team encompasses three previous areas including Student Leadership and Programming, Community Engagement and Volunteering, and Identity, Student Engagement, and Access (ISEA), as well as e-sports. The Assistant Director will be an integral part of the Division of Student Success.  

The Assistant Director Will: 

  • Lead the Coordination of the Co-Curricular Transcript at Clark 
  • Pursue ongoing excellence in maintaining Clark Engage for the purpose of student-facing campus calendaring, marketing, and as the location to host the student co-curricular transcript  
  • Develop and enhance student Pathways in Clark Engage as the container for the co-curricular transcript, including career development, leadership, community engagement, social justice and equity and inclusion, and health and well-being 
  • Collaborate across offices and departments to cultivate signature and required programming activities and experiences as part of the Clark Experience co-curricular transcript 
  • Assess and evaluate co-curricular offerings, preparing reports, ensuring inclusion and equity, and managing multiple priorities to advance a comprehensive student experience 
  • Build and maintain a robust programming calendar for students, aligned with University priorities and the Clark Experience pillars  

Scheduling & Event Operations 

  • Support student space reservations through the Event Management System (EMS) and Clark Engage, including active follow up and communication with various campus services 
  • Assist groups with the event planning process by providing creative ideas, connecting to vendors and campus partners, and site-assistance as needed 
  • Coordinate student club and organization space reservation and services requisition processes  
  • Communicate regarding student club events to campus partners and the campus community 
  • Leverage the Event Check In App to provide robust data and coordinate student learning across all activities  

Student Involvement & Advising  

  • Provide support to clubs and organizations, their student leaders and advisors, including supporting club training and resource materials, attending meetings and events, engagement with advisors, and connections with campus partners  
  • Engage and advise with student organizations and leaders regarding event planning, organization management, budgeting, culturally relevant leadership and identity development 
  • Serve as a resource and support for all students engaging with student engagement and belonging 

Serve as a member of the Division of Student Success  

  • Participate in departmental and divisional meetings, trainings, and activities to support student retention, success, engagement, and belonging  
  • Serve as a responsible committee representative as requested on university task forces and committees to support student retention, programming, and persistence  
  • Maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate for staffing evening/late night/weekend events as needed  
  • Support key initiatives and experiences within the University, such as opening weekend, commencement, family weekend, traditional events, etc.   
  • Promote efficiency and courtesy throughout the University community and ensure that it is consistent with the engagement team and student success's mission and values 
  • Remain cognizant of the University's mission and identity, the constant promotion of diversity, equity, and inclusion, and the importance of student voices 




Job Requirements:

  • Knowledge of developing and assessing co-curricular experiences for undergraduate students 
  • Knowledge of and commitment to the principles of student development theory, identity development theory, high impact practices, and the value of student organizations as an experiential learning process. 
  • Demonstrated cultural competence and experience in working with diverse communities of college students 
  • Possess strong communication, analytical, and problem-solving skills to review and analyze complex information. 
  • Evidence of strong organizational skills; ability to exercise sound judgment and make sound decisions; ability to manage multiple priorities efficiently and effectively; work well under pressure. 
  • Awareness of contemporary practices and current trends in the fields of student activities, student learning, career and leadership development. 
  • Comfort with technology including MS Office, Anthology Engage, EMS Event Management System, Canvas, Canva and social media. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively, serve as a team player, and support student affairs and student engagement  
  • Strong interpersonal skills, conflict resolution skills, and be adaptable 

Preferred Requirements:

  • A master's degree in education, student affairs, counseling or a related field, is preferred. Bachelor's degree required.  
  • Two to four years of relevant experience in student affairs/multicultural and higher education administration, or combination of education and relevant experience.  
  • Demonstrate success multi-tasking and working effectively in a busy, multifaceted office environment 
  • Creativity and resourcefulness in completing tasks and advancing the work student success 
  • Willingness to maintain a flexible schedule to accommodate pre-planned evening or weekend programs as needed 
  • Demonstrated understanding of, appreciation of, and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion
